About us
De re coquinaria (whose name pays
tribute to the most famous cooking autor, Apicius), is a gastronomic
bookshop born at the dawn of the 21st Century. Among our intentions
is the practice of the bookselling trade in its richest and
most traditional meaning, trying to satisfy completely the needs
of the readers who approach us.
It is a bookshop specialised in cooking, certainly in recipe
books, but also in books on any other subject related to the
food fact. As research on human feeding today is becoming more
and more interdisciplinaty, we want to include as many titles
as are necessary to fully cover such an important aspect of
human life, which is also considered an art and valued as one
of the most important sources of pleasure. In short, a bookshop
with books to serve gastronomy, as defined by Archestratus (IVc.
BC) and expressed by Joseph Berchous (1805) in his verses for
a new bougeoisie that was dawning at the beginning of the XIXc.
and whose pretensions have been gradually shared by society.

As any
proper bookseller would do, in De re
coquinaria we will be happy to answer any enquiry you
may have on any book whether it is included or not in our catalogue,
as well as to research and inform you on books that may be out
of stock, or that will be soon reprinted, or that may only be
found in old booksellers (as some of the most important old
booksellers with whom we are in contact may be able to inform
us). Our clients and friends may also want to know about books
which can be found in public or private libraries, sometimes
with restrictive rules of access. De
re coquinaria also provides this information service
which eventually may lead to the obtention, in photocopy of
microfilm, of a copy of the original. This service will always
be provided at the previous request of our client, and after
the sending by De re coquinaria
of a proforma invoice that will be accepted and returned by
the client with the agreed payment method.
We must not finish this enquiry chapter without clarigying that
in our own benefit, but especially in our customers benefit,
we need to know your opinion. Therefore we sincerely thank in
advance all those who will fill in the attached form. Your cooperation
will help us build a bookshop for all.
